HANDS AND PETALS

Well, I wasn't satisfied with the hands on this...so wiped it all down again (it's on gold gessoed paper so you can do this without problems) and started over. I really want to carefully shape them and make them look real. I am getting there, using opaque watercolors to build up the lights and darks.

Still some fiddling needed...so before I overworked it and ruined it and had to wipe it all off again, I put it aside and did more work on the Dancing Petals painting. This is it, stage 2.

I've been scattered lately...unable to focus on one thing for very long so switching back and forth from paintings to ATCs to reading in my latest art magazines. Here are some ATCs I doodled while sitting on the sofa watching TV. I'm not crazy about them - they seem childish to me...not artful enough. But maybe it's just a way to get the energy out without working on a painting. I think I need to put the Pitt Brush pens down and go to colored pencil or watercolor pencils instead to get more values and depth.
As you can see, they all are still in the heart theme.

Wow! The hands are awesome! I only wish I could be that good at hands. The petals are gorgeous as well. I have recently tried ATC's for the first time they are so much FUN! Thank you for all the inspiration.

Petals are coming along nicely. Don't know how you can work so small on those ATCs but they look cute to me!

Those hands are looking quite great Rhonda, even if they're not finished it's obvious the shadows are correct, good shapes, they read as real hands already

For being scattered you are really getting alot done. Don't forget to be kind to yourself in the process. Sometime we just need some time to regroup.

Rhonda, scattered is certainly the wrong word...you are simply feeling too creative to just focus on one work:-)
The hands are almost perfect already - is it my imagination, or is the nail on the left-hand index too big? Apart from that, I find that those hands are super. Your petals are also coming along beautifully. Keep all those great creative juices flowing.

Rhonda, nothing wrong with being somewhat "scattered", it allows us to focus on one thing at a time and move onto another. I agree with Vicki, this phase you are in allows you to indulge in your interests but allows you to move on, too, if your whim dictates. You can get through this and onto another...Susan

On looking at these hands a second time, I am struck by your attention to hand anatomy, which is a good thing. The only thing that bothers me is that you might pay so much attention to every sinew and muscle that they start to look like a field workers hands instead of a Geisha's, which would be very soft and delicate. Whadya think? Be careful...Susan

Thanks so much, Jane, Deb, Teresa, Vicki, Christiane and Susan for your comments on these. I am glad you reminded me, Vicki and Christiane, not to be too hard on myself even if I'm jumping all over!
Christiane and Susan, I will look carefully at the hands and details again when I get back to them and try to get the shapes right without getting things too harsh...softening to become a geisha's hands (not my rough hands! haha).
Thanks so much for the comments, all! It is always appreciated and lightens my day when I see how many people take the time to comment on anything I've done :) Now off to watercolor society meeting!

Scattered could also be diversified! You ARE that for sure. Enjoy thejourney wherever it takes you and know that you are making good art. I like the ATCs.
