I just read that the artist, Andrew Wyeth, died this morning. He was 91. He no longer gave interviews but he continued to paint. What a lifetime of achievement and mastery he lived!
May we all continue to create beauty until the end.
Thanks for the news, Rhonda. I grew up very near his place in Chadds Forde, so his work has always reminded me of home (though in late fall and winter). It's like a little piece of home has evaporated.
He liked the "bare bones" of the place and I think that's what his paintings were about - using the landscape and buildings to tell the story of the people there. Wouldn't it be wonderful to touch so many lives?
I was fortunate enough to have been able to go to the Helga paintings exhibit when it was at the LA Museum of Art back in the late 80s. Seeing the drawings, studies and paintings up close was a wonderful experience.
