SHE SELLS

A sea shell drawn to practice observational skills.

I had a set of calipers at one time, but can't find them anywhere to help me measure.  But not too bad on this one - a bit here and there until I build up more shape and shadow.  A fine natural illustration artist could make this seem like 2 shells sitting there on the paper, but I'm not there yet.

Before my vision loss worsened this was one of my favourite challenges, I enjoyed it so much, to recreate so closely to tell which is which was always my goal.
Beautiful sketching!

Hello Rhonda, you have been busy this month! Love your crow paintings each one is so original! And am interested to read about the drawing you are starting to do for your coursework. It will be a change from your free and imaginative work. It is nice to have a challenge and I wish you all the best with that!

Great job on a difficult subject--or at least I find shells to be so!
I have been reading the assignments, and collecting things to draw ... but haven't done a drawing yet! (Just like in grad school: always getting extensions on my assignments!)

Thank you, Laurie, Caroline (yes, this is very detail oriented and tight but interesting to try it).

Laura, thanks, I must have a thousand seashells in my home from trips to the beach throughout the years so plenty of models! ha ha. I find the assignment is stuck at the end of Lesson 2 for those of us who are auditing and I hope they fix that or there wasn’t much to get out of this course! So no hurry on doing those assignments :(.

Jennifer, thanks, I could do more (and should, for practice) to get better at seeing...but I’m not sure I will! ha ha

Drawing from a 3-D object is tough, but you are off to a FANTASTIC start - calipers or no!

A lovely drawing Rhonda. I find those knobbly knuckles on this type a real challenge to draw. You have done a great job of them and getting their roundness.
