CHERRIES CHAIR AND TULIPS REWORKED A BIT

After some input from some blogger buddies, I thought I'd work on this a bit more.  Added some oil pastels here and there to bump up the color in places and push back the "cut in half" dark blue vs. aqua blue.

Hmmm...still not sure about it.

Not sure about the red lines Rhonda but the painting is really pretty.

Thanks, Caroline. I appreciate your honesty as this is really working in progress on all of these latest ones but I feel a tug to continue in this way...I really just wanted to push back/disguise the sharp line down the middle and bring the two sides together but maybe needed to think of another way. I think putting these away for a while and then looking at them again in a week or even a month would bring about new ideas for me so maybe I'll try to not feel that I have to "finish" them all now.

I don't know why you felt the need to 'rework'.. I like the changes but.....
I liked it from the beginning..
I could see a grouping of these on someones wall. !!!

i agree about the red lines, little distracting. could you maybe tone them down?

Just had another look at your painting and I immediately saw how important red is. What else is red, why a heart, then I thought if this was my painting I would have the painting within a heart shape and do away with the usual square sides we tend to work within. The red line could be on the edges to depict the heart. Anyway that is just an idea and I am sure you will find your way forward. I agree that putting the painting away for a week or a month really helps, then you will be able to see how to finish the paintings. Or you may decide to leave them as they are! Good luck with your paintings.

I think softening the blue middle edge worked well to unify the painting. I find the red lines a little distracting but if you cropped those from the top the composition works really well as a square. I like the way the bottom of the chair provides the top 'step' and the wavy lines pull you back in. With a subtley changed palette the repeating colours give the painting a nice flow. Just goes to show how keeping at a painting can pay off.
