Silent Solstice (Winter Becomes Maine)
by Denis Dunn
sleet against the windowpane,
or maybe a mouse in the wall...
I listen...
but silence knows no direction
outside,
heavy pine boughs,
deep in the woods
so quiet, so still
a deer steps…
inside, warm,
the sound of a cat’s paw
disturbs very little
as it hunts in a dream
silent as sleet
Happy Solstice/First Day of Winter

Feels like dead mid winter here with snow laying thick for past few days and more to come. You have become very poetical of late!!
Well, it's cold and dreary but not much snow here - and I'm glad for that :) Heavy winter snow is only fun and/or beautiful when you are a child...or don't have anywhere to go for a few days and can enjoy it from your warm house :)This poem wasn't written by me - I used to write a lot of poems but that was in my teenaged and early twenties angst-filled days!
Good pick on the poem - describes the winter quiet perfectly!
Thanks, Pam. Our snow is melting and it's almost 40F today - my kind of winter so far :)
