The TriState Photographic Society held their annual Awards Banquet last evening. Good food, good socializing, and awards for many of the photographers in the group. My Sweetie, Jerry, won
1) Nature Photographer of the Year
2) Pictorial Photographer of the Year
and
3) Overall Photographer of the Year!!!
He received very nice plaques for all of these and also came home with a multi-colored assortment of ribbons (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th places in other categories).
Here is a sampling of the competition-winning photos that got him the top awards.

Not that I'm bragging but he won these 3 awards last year, too :) Yes, he's good. And he spends time taking photos based on each months' theme. He's also in charge of the field trips this year so is arranging them. His last field trip was to the Cincinnati Zoo to shoot "animals 8 feet and larger." Not as easy as it sounds to get a good photo of a large animal because, in the photo, it cannot show "the hand of man;" meaning - no fences, wires, anything that looks manmade cannot be showing in the photo. So what do you think he took photos of at the zoo?
Yep - the giraffes!
(I can show this one because it obviously has the hand-of-man in the photo that can't be cropped or changed but it's one cute photo!) Look at that tongue! ha ha

Your sweet Hubby has the best compositional skills!! Congrats to Jerry - keep the challenge going Jerry!
I suspect Jerry the sweetie is your other half - my what a talented pair. No wonder he has won so many awards, stunning work and so asking for you to paint!!! I think my favourites are the egrets and heron - fantastic moments to capture. Where may I ask???
Congrats to your husband...these photos are smashing!!! It's interesting to see such human traits in these animals...Each one a fabulous capture...Two years in a row or not...you both must be "over the moon" with excitement. Stunning work! :)
Thanks for sharing Jerry's photos and awesome awards. To be a scientist AND have a great artistic eye --- very cool! Proud of him, too and love how you support and care about your honey.
Hey, these are great and such an honor so richly deserved by Jerry! My fav in this group is the one with those two egrets, such a sweet moment to capture!
Congratulations to Jerry - very good photos!
I've been reading the comments to Jerry about his photos and he's well pleased :) He really enjoys photography and it shows in his work, I think. Plus, he's a bit of a "why not?" type personality and tries things that others may not try when coming up with photos for themes in the club. If I just painted the photos he took, I'd have a lifetime of paintings to do!
Congrats Jerry! Love the photos Rhonda. He is so skilled at photographyy and caputuring the moment.
Congratulations Jerry! What beautiful shots! I especially love the white heron. Awesome shot!
Oooh, congratulations Jerry...Great photos!
Congratulations to Jerry! I can see why he won all those wonderful awards. Beautiful work.
Congratulations to your sweetie... these are fantastic... amazing clarity... what a source of wonderful shots you have at your fingertips... Talent galore in your family!!!
Thanks so much, Deb, Ann, Anita, Vicki and Gwen, for your comments on Jerry's photos. I do have a wealth of painting reference photos to shoot if all I ever did was what he has shot :) I do like to mix it up a bit at times, using some from WetCanvas and other painting/photo friends (like Vicki!)
Joan, you asked where he shot the egrets and herons? Each year we take a trip to the St. Augustine/Palm Coast area of Florida and visit the St. Augustine Alligator Farm where the birds are nesting and raising chicks - if you go in late April/early May the sound is unbelievable! He so enjoys going and spending the whole day there.
