IRIS

Using some of the blues I have on my palette and in my art bag.

This is not an original but one I did after looking at a painting done by one of my favorite artists, Carol Carter.  I couldn’t find a photo of irises but I know I have some - just have to start digging out photos that get buried!

Here is a page of paint swatches of all the dark blues I have now.

Those colors just pull me right in! Smart idea of Carol's to so radically crop an iris painting--really focuses you in on the color, not the thing. I really like the soft washes in the background too.

Rhonda your Iris is lovely. There is something soothing too about the color of blue. Looks like you have a wonderful variety in your palette. Hope you are not getting the snow we are today and tomorrow...sounds like we are going to be buried. :)!

Laura, the composition is mostly mine from wanting to cut out the iris at the left which I didn’t like as much and adding another stalk and bud in. Carol’s done a lot of iris paintings so I used that as a starting point - still can’t find my photos of iris (time to do a deep cleaning of my art room).
Thanks, Debbie. Yes, we are going to get 9-12 inches of snow (predicted) from this afternoon through tomorrow afternoon - we’ll see. So far, about 6-7 inches on the ground and we dug out Sweetie’s car once (mine is still covered in snow in the driveway because I don’t need to go anywhere). So another dig out this afternoon, maybe - but it’s COLD, too!! Winter = ugh!
