Here's the latest version of this. I wanted to use just 3 colors but ended up with 4: Hansa Yellow Light, Indigo, Lamp Black and...the next is a surprise color which will be the petals of the flowers...
I cut in the Lamp Black and the Indigo first, around the other shapes, leaving some whites and miskiting out the tendrils of the flowers.
Then put some color in the leaves and vines (the Hansa Yellow Light), and when I blended the edges with the Lamp Black or Indigo, I got a nice warm green here and there.
Here's a closeup of the bottom leaf so you can see the color in the bg better - it has a nice, dark blue tone to it.
This is on 1/4 sheet Kilimanjaro 140# coldpress paper, something new I'm trying out. So far, so good!

So far so good - I'll say!!! I scrolled down to your previous try at this and must agree with you - this one is better. Would never have thought of the black, but do like indigo and like how it is creating the leaves for you - looks great!
Oh I think you are brave with all that lamp black!
This is looking great so far!
Beautiful layers and lovely lines...Can't wait to see what's next! :)
I love how tis is coming along; great color choices. Look forward to seeing the surprise color!
Deb, I'm so glad you said this - I was afraid everyone would say, "Well you should have stuck with the one you tore up!" ha ha
Angela, I bought lamp black after taking a Carol Carter workshop - she uses it behind pure colored flowers and it looks great - so I thought I'd try but have to have some blue in there (I'm addicted to blue, I know).
Thanks so much Margaret Ann and Laura. I hope to have it finished tomorrow and have begun the drawing for something else...perhaps another blue painting???
Oh YES! SO looking forward to seeing it in real lide. Gorgeous and exciting.
Thanks, Sandy! I have begun the surprise color on the flowers...
I love that you're using lamp black, it's so underated! and it does make those yellows pot up, can't wait to see the flower's color
Teresa, I'd love to be able to use the lamp black the way Carol Carter does - I need more practice to get black fading to gray (and larger areas, too).
