Myrna Wacknov (see my sidebar for her blogspot) had a challenge to paint/sketch with ink on old phone book pages. I tried it and it was fun.
I put several together into a little interactive vignette when I finished them (did about a dozen but some were just blobs of ink when I finished). I used the business section of the yellow pages - it might be interesting to carry this out further and, using the businesses listed (bakery, library, etc), create a sketch around that subject?
This first one - a possible self-portrait?
And this one on the right - just 3 models for art class who have no body image issues.
And now almost time for my open figure drawing session on this lovely fall day.

Rhonda,
Finally! A use for the 100 pounds of old phone books we have! Locally, we get far too many of these, what a waste of paper when we look up everything on the Internet!
I like your idea of using the appropriate pages in the yellow pages to have the sketches represent. Cool.

You said 'never never never...hardly ever!!' for a landscape on a full sheet!?! It's MUCH easier to paint big than small. And I really like the freedom of line in the phone book drawings. Hope drawing class was fun today too.
Rhonda, like what you've done with the phone book and Myrna's projects. I drew some today in a sketch book to post on her blog later and want to try some phone book drawings. I'm home for awhile and in Nov. have the Arne Westerman workshop but I can drive back and forth.

Thanks so much for your comments, Susan, Sandy and Nancy :) Yep, a use for those old books you may still have lying around (we recycle ours but had this one under some stuff in my art room :)
Glad you will take a break for a while, Nancy! You're wearing me out :)
Drawing session was good - just a few of us there and some regulars missing but I'll post those later today or tomorrow - haven't taken photos yet today.
