Okay, this is getting serious. It got up to 104F degrees in the Cincinnati area today. All the lawns are brown that aren't being watered daily. The air conditioner is running all the time. I sure hope, wherever you are, you are not experiencing this heat. It's unbearable when you have to step outside, so you just sit in, watch the Wimbledon tennis matches (Come on!! Roger!!), or read.
I didn't get to finish the pears painting until after Tuesday's beginner class. But I did get it done.
And we began a little seascape painting for our next lesson, which will be finished the next time we meet.
I showed them how to paint the sky a pale summery color with clouds lifted using soft Viva towels; and how to splatter to get more texture in the foreground rocks. We masked off the white boat which will allow us to paint loosely the water all around it.
I hope your weekend is going well.

Oh my goodness it is hot, your pears are melting - lol. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I really like those drips and splatters and the little landscape is coming along really well.
Hi, Rhonda,
Both paintings are so nice! Survive hot days, watching tennis, holding cold lemmonade!!
Cheers, Sadami
The pears make a lovely composition and your control of colour makes for a fine image.
I've been hearing about your searing heat - your watercolours remain fresh and lovely though. Stay cool and yes, go Roger!
Hhh h hot! Here it is chilly, I'm wearing a wooly jumper and though the rain has finally stopped for now it'll be back later today apparently. I wish the gulf stream would get back to where it's supposed to be so that all of our weather would be normal.
Love the pear painting, so fresh and loose! Looking forward to seeing the seascape completed but I imagine it must be a hard job to paint watercolours between the heat and the air con drying out the air. Stay cool.
The pears look beautiful Rhonda and the seascape is also looking amazing. Looking forward to seeing it finished. We're sharing the same heat here west of Chicago. Miserable isn't the word.
Vicki, I think they are melting! ha ha
Sadami, trying to stay inside and stay cool.
Thanks, Mick!
Today's the day, Cathy - go Team Roger!!!
Lisa, it's a shame we can't share a little weather - some more warm for you, some more cool for me :)
Sherry, Chicago was HOT when we were there and I guess is still in the midwest scorcher area :( I'm sure this has put a damper on lots of outdoor events all over the midwest and south. Too hot to even go outside and it's already
85F at 8 AM!!! Crazy! We had a strange rain yesterday with it blowing so hard it was hissing around the house like a huge snake - ewwww!
LOVE THE PEARS! Look forward to seeing the seascape finished.
I really like your pears with their drizzles, Rhonda. And I hope it cools off a bit for you - 104F is too hot to do anything.
The pears are beautiful and masterfully painted! Come visit here in SF Bay area. Nice and cool.
I've missed lots of our blog posts of late, but so glad I saw these two paintings. Hope you are doing well, Rhonda.
Thanks so much, Deb, Kathryn, and Myrna (be careful what you offer - Jerry and I may take you up on that someday!).
Maggie, I've missed your posts, too, but glad to see your online class is going. I was tempted to take it, myself, but wonder about my commitment right now - I know it's the heat and summer and things I need to do instead of paint on paper right now, but...didn't want to join and then not participate fully.
Those pears look so yummy and juicy and I would love to jump in that water.
Hot here too. Hang in there, go slow, stay cool.
cool pears :) lovely colors!
Thanks, Carol and Meera, for your positive comments :)
