I finished the magnolia painting yesterday in class, putting in the dark darks behind the flower and softening some petals. What do you think? I like it, but...
I think I'm going to do another with the same colors in the flower and a green branch with a pale violet background. I don't know why I want to do it that way, I just do!
I also started another in the Shaker Village kitchen series - this is number 6 and the requirements were
1) Value and 2) Radial Design and 3) Indanthrone Blue.
This is the first step and I'm not sure where I'm going from here. In class it was suggested that I put golden delicious apples in the white area like wallpaper - that might work.
And, just because I had the time and why not...I put a bit more color on the little landscape (Violet Path) that is on a piece of tyvek that was coated with matte medium. Nothing much, just a little plaything.

Lovely magnolia Rhonda. I like the lost edges you have which cause the petal to look like it is receding.
The baskets look so good too. I like how you are open to different designs, etc.

I see your magnolia in the true spirit of the original photo, with a dark backgound and it is luscious! Forget what I said about a vignette of fading dark to light colors, this is how it was meant to be and what attracted you to the photo in the first place. Great job! And, if you feel compelled to do it differently, then do it!

Looks like you are having fun these days!! The magnolia painting is gorgeous, quite dramatic - the very dark background has enough variety to create mystery. Love it!!
And the color scheme in the shaker painting is wonderful.

I love your dark background!!! Maybe a bit more highlights or something on the stem though to separate it from the background??? The flower looks awesome, especially the centre.
And I love those baskets, too! Can't wait to see how this one develops!

I lost all intention to fade it away to paler colors, Susan, it wasn't intentional to keep it so dark all around - just got into the darks and they took over!
I don't know about lightening some of the stem, Deb. Maybe in my next version I'll do a better job on that.
