THIS AND THAT

Sundown

11 x 15 inches
Arches 140# cold press paper

I had no preconceived notion of what I was going to paint when I began these last 2 paintings - just picked a color and began and then moved on from there.
Perhaps I need an idea first?

Hi there Rhonda!

I love your series of recent paintings. With no particular place to go... or grow... each has its own spirit and fearlessly approaches the sublime. Making "pretty pictures" has its merits too... but reaching beyond the ordinary... to a new place and risking failure is in itself a creative act of... courage! Bravo!

Warmest regards,
Bruce

Thanks, Bruce. (I hope my comments came through on your blog and, if not, then send Deb my happiest of birthday wishes!). I knew you would see into these - the feelings I am trying to bring forth don’t always show up - but sometimes they surprise me! I am painting less frequently but, when I do go into my little art room, I seem to hear it calling me to paint and paper and exploration of something more. As you say, I still enjoy pretty paintings of flowers, birds, landscapes, etc - and there is room for them all along with these others :).

These have been wonderful, Rhonda! I don't think you need an idea first...

It is good to be the instrument sometimes and let the paintings take care of themselves. Often the 'intention/idea' becomes clearer after time passes. Keep on painting :o)
