A FLICKER AT THE FEEDER

I was surprised to see this beautiful bird at our suet feeder 2 days in a row.  I do hope she (for I think it's a she) is going to stay around and find a mate and raise a few little flickers.  We've never had one in our area so it was amazing to see her.  Such beautiful colors with a black bib and black dots on her face, speckled chest, a touch of red at the back of her head; and that beautiful creamy toffee color!  I love it when we attract a new bird to our feeders.

(Not a great photo - I got my point-n-shoot and took it before she flew away.)

Don't forget to check out our artist and blogger friend, Jeanette Jobson, and her Fishy Bits project goal!  I've included the link - so visit and read what it's about.  You might be able to help her meet her $ goal for a home printing press.

Although her deadline is in April, don't wait until April to donate, if you are so inclined.  Remember, we're all in this together!

You remind me of my mom--loved birds. She just delighted in any little feller that showed up and would watch them with keen interest. Anyway I have all her bird books and field glasses. Aren't Flickers fairly rare? Been enjoying your recent efforts--especially the tomatoes--they are making me want summertime and soon. Best

Bill, I do love the birds. Today, I watched them and smiled - a dozen cardinals coming round, then 4 blue jays, then the woodpeckers and - wait! A cry from a jay and the woodpecker and flicker stopped - still as stone. I looked up - there was a hawk! They didn't move until the big hawk flew away. Then all the activity began again :) Oh, I will settle for spring coming - don't want to rush summer yet! ha ha

It is exciting to see a new bird in your own backyard. I remember several years ago the first time that I spotted a kingfisher and how excited I was. Your flicker is beautiful!

Vicki, I would love to see a kingfisher but none around here.

Mick, not sure I will paint this one - but I might :)

Sadami, thanks so much!

Sherry, it has returned - yesterday, during snowfall, we had dozens of birds at the feeders and she was one waiting for the suet.

Very cool bird. You were luck with a shy bird as this one.
