Diana, he reminds me of photos of pteradactyls, he is so big. We have a pair come through once a year, but they don't stay close since I never see them after nesting season.

Sadami and Renate, thanks. These birds are the biggest woodpeckers living - huge things the other birds stay away from when he comes to feed at the suet feeder. This is a photo Sweetie took out the window when I said, "Come here, quick!!"
