MOTMOTS SOFTENED

I did not like the hard edges on the Motmot painting, so I returned to it to soften the edges, using a scrubber brush.  I softened the edges, then dropped in more pigment.  Not great but I had nothing to lose with this one.

The next one is much better - you'll see.

Both versions are beautiful and really well done, Rhonda. We are our own worst critics.

Dear Rhonda I am just catching up on your previous posts. Your Motmot painting isbeautiful. Those birds are gorgeous. The background is perfect for showcasing their vivid color. Hope you are well rested from your break. So glad you are back. Hugs!

Hi Rhonda,

I thank you deeply for your note. We artists really are more sensitive, sometimes to our benefit, sometimes not. The state of the earth has upset me so long, so profoundly, that I had to write about it, and I will do more. And writing does help. Near where I live, we recently stopped a development that would have destroyed farms and woodland. I am sure the developers will try again [greedy people that they are] but we just have to keep on trying. Try writing a note to your relevant government officials; tell them how you feel. They do listen, thought they may not be able to take action right away. The only way to effect change is by voicing your feelings and perspective, and by educating and informing people of what is happening, and then offering them solutions.

Warmly

Kathy

PS - looking forward to your next version of the mot-mots

Thanks so much, Sadami (busy girl!!), Chris, Alice Jo, Debbie and Jennifer Rose.

Kathy, thanks. Yes, we can't all give up and just close off - must still care and do something (or support those who can and will do something). We support the Sierra Club, various ocean conservancies and nature groups - and hoping all goes well there with your fight for what's right!

This is lovely work Rhonda. You are being too critical.

Thanks so much, Asit. I am happier now they are softened and not so hard-edged all around but I think I could do better - and did better with the toucanette :) Congratulations on your show next year - I know it will be thrilling and so many people will get to see your wonderful watercolors :)
