LUNA

This beautiful, delicate luna moth was found on our daughter's door...and she brought it to us after it died.  I couldn't help taking a few photos for reference later...

She said it stayed attached to the screen door for days and they really enjoyed watching it.

I just have it lying on a piece of painted paper.  Isn't the color lovely?

Rhonda- I have enjoyed this moth at my home too. They are so amazing. Do I feel a painting of this might be in the works. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day.

Rhonda, I also posted a luna moth a few days ago , on my Art Hearts Journey blog. Almost the same story. It stayed in one place for days, and then some one told me that they die after mating. I'm thinking it must be mating season for them, as I've seen 3 in just the past week. I'm in Tn. They are so beautiful.

Yes, Barbara, we heard from a friend who was out at his farm and he said he saw several of these - caught in the act! - so it's mating season for them. I hope this one lasts in its plastic baggie until I can get some small paintings of it. Glad to see you are back after a long absence and hope you are doing okay.

Debbie, I do plan to use it as a model - something pretty and soft, maybe...

Thank you, Mowe and Sherry! Keep a look out and see if you have them where you live!

Caroline, I may end up painting this pretty thing some day soon.

Jennifer Rose, I've never seen one live, either - but it must be the time of year when they are out finding mates so more for next year :) We still have tree frogs croaking around our pool at night even though it's been cooler. So wet this year, the little tree frogs have been very happy and the top of our pool (which is covered but has a bit of water on it from the heavy rains) has little tadpoles :)
