SKETCHBIRD ROBIN

Another sketchbird in my book, using the Law's Guide.  In information he gave on his website, he recommends using a Prismacolor Blue Col-Erase pencil for initial sketching.  It's light blue and you can erase lines.

I bought two of the pencils from Dick Blick, used it on this robin sketch and then erased a bit and made changes as I went.  I went over the lines with graphite after I had what I wanted with the blue pencil.  You can see some of those lines because I didn't erase them all.

Although I don't remember, I have been told that I danced to the song, Rockin' Robin, in my crib when I was a tiny thing.  Apparently, all they had to do to make me happy was play that song and let me dance.

Rhonda - this is a delightful sketch. Thank you for sharing your information on the pencil. Must shop for one of these...sounds like it would be so nice when correcting lines. Hope you are staying warm in your part of the world...ours is filled with snow and cold temps on the way. Take care and have a great day.

Aw, even as a baby you were drawn to birds. I like the sketch, and I'm curious about the col-erase. Is that something that many watercolor artists use? I've often wondered how you get the outlines onto the paper, without them being seen later.

Thanks, Debbie. It is cold here and we got our first real snow = 2-4 inches of soft, wet, heavy snow. Beautiful on the trees and shrubs and I've enjoyed watching the birds all day at the feeders.

Katherine, thanks. I did think he needed that red breast so added that - will post that tomorrow when he's dry and I get a photo. I had never heard of Col-Erase until it was mentioned by John Muir Laws as a good way to sketch without worrying about lines - it erases well. I normally just draw with graphite, lightly, then run a kneaded eraser over my drawing to lighten it and then paint.

Now I have "Rockin' Robin" playing in my head! Love the bird sketch.

Hello, so cute Rhonda! Danced! I'm sure you really loved that bird. Anyway, this drawing looks nice for me. An angle is very eye catchy. Go, go, Rhonda!
Best wishes, Sadami

A lovely sketch Rhonda. And thanks for sharing the info on this pencil. These days it is difficult to keep up with the kind of art materials available. I wonder what the old Masters will do if they get to see them!

Lovely Robin, Rhonda. Don't know why, but I always have difficulty with them.
Saw a Baltimore Oriole at my door the other day:first one I've ever seen.

Oh to live a life of dance! Wouldn't that be fabulous? Great drawing, Debbie!

Thanks, Carol, Sadami, Asit, Laura and Sherry. Laura, have never seen an Oriole here in NKY but saw them in the Chicago area once when visiting.
