Rusty Onions :)

I did get permission from Amy Palko to use her photo for my painting of the onions as my Rusty Things project for my group :) Thank you, Amy!

Here is what I have so far...first washes and second. Am I done? Do I need to add more? What do you think?

And I think I am done with the Rusty Pot painting we all are doing at WatercolorWorkshop. I wanted to give the background some color but keep it light. I think seeing it like this, it needs a bit darker shadow shapes to give it more pop?

Those onions do look just about finished, except for some dark spatters. If you look at the ref photo they have some dark specks that give them that earthy texture look. I love the color you achieved on these and I have bought onions that have that same pearly rust color on the skins. I hate peeling that skin from onions, but sure like their color!

You critiqued your rusty pot painting as I would...definitely more darks are needed. Good wood on the fence rails, though. Maybe a few darks along the shaded side, though, to show more modeling. Otherwise this one has a nice simplicity about it.

Great onions! The photo does have a bit of grayed teal in the background with a texture that goes diagonally. I know we can't be governed by the photo, but thot the contrast would make those gorgeous onion skins even more a-peeling! (Couldn't resist.)

Thanks, Susan, Sandy and Dawn :) Yep, needs some splatters and maybe a good strong background color? And I was seeing a greyed cerulean in places but not teal - I'll try that - thanks Teach!!!
Dawn, I am loving your latest photos of the birds :)
