Well, I participated in the Gel Printing Session Kickoff (free learning how to use the gel plate and get some neat things from various teachers); then did the Sketchbook Revival 2024 lessons; and now I’m in the Gel Printing Sessions 2024 lessons! Whew! I am working working working, watching videos, learning, trying new things and old things and making lots of stuff. And I think it is because it keeps me from sitting watching the weather channel and Facebook pages of friends who got hit HARD by Hurricane Helene and then Hurricane Milton. Going into my little art room away from the t.v. And internet has been helpful. I even sent a bunch of my prints to my artist friend whose galleries both were demolished in Asheville, North Carolina. She went 8 days without power and water at her home even though she didn’t get flooded. And lost so many pieces of art she’d made. So it felt good to send her some of these prints I’d made (I mean, what am I going to do with them all?!? Ha ha)
Some of the prints are on rice paper or thin printing paper, some are on watercolor blank cards and some are on printing paper (a bit more absorbent than watercolor paper).
And these are the ones I kept - sent Li this many and more because I had made prints before and just stacked them in an envelope I found. I hope she can use them to make her torn collage pieces. (If you want to look her up, look up Li Newton and see her work - I bought here 2024 calendar full of very creative critters inspired by artists).

Heartbreaking to see so much destruction and see how many people have been affected. I can't get my head around the scale or how long clean up will take. I hope the weather rests a bit easy for the recovery.
You have been a busy lady - gel printing looks so much fun I love the colours and textures that you have made. Some of those look like they would be perfect for drawing into so I am sure you will have even more fun with them. Best wishes for a creative week.

The weather news was stressful.
My brother, who lives in St.Pete, has been living in Asheville this year for work: double whammy!
And was very worried about my many close friends on the Gulf Coast. Some experienced pretty bad property damage or loss of electricity but they are better off than many others!
Rethinking my plan to retire to FL!
It’s fun to make the prints and you can buy a small 5x7 Gelli Plate for printing and there is a lot of info on YouTube, too. Get some rice paper, acrylic (open acrylics work best because they don’t dry so quickly on the paper - but the first lesson in this course was printing on the tissue paper (white) that comes in gift boxes and bags and it worked fine!
Lisa, I cannot imagine the loss of the people in the southeastern states and how long it will take to just clean up and rebuild. I am keeping busy…probably a fall rush and then when days get colder and more grey, I will go back to reading :).
Laura, not sure I’d plan on moving to FL - it’s only going to get worse, I’m afraid. But who knew Asheville would flood like it has? I am okay where I am - besides, I like the changing of the seasons that FL does not have.
