Still working with the Arches 140# hotpress paper (10 x 14 inches). Used just 3 colors. The hotpress lifts well if you don't use staining pigments.
Red-winged Blackbird
Just returned from 2 weeks away at the beach. Will share photos as I sort and edit some. And I definitely will be using this black pigment again on, maybe...a crow or two? :)

Oh this is such a wonderful painting Rhonda. I always love to listen for these birds in the spring because I know winter is over when they start to crackle. May you have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. Will be looking forward to visiting you in 2018. Hugs!
Rhonda, Just love this series!
What a fine job you did on this blackbird's feathers - beautiful painting. Just beautiful!
Welcome back, Rhonda! I look forward to your photos. Best wishes, Sadami
This makes me happy! Such a striking little guy and the simplicity of it makes him more so. Nice work!
Thanks, Debbie, Chris, Sadami and Alice Jo :) I enjoyed this one and it really flowed over the hotpress paper - will use hotpress again with some granulating pigments and see what happens.
looks good :D hmm maybe a black swan??
Hi Rhonda, I am intrigued about the colours you are using. That black is perfect for the blackbird. Beautiful bird painting.
Ah, a black swan? Good idea, Jennifer Rose.
Thanks, Caroline. The black is Daniel Smith Lunar Black, a very granulating color that lifts easily and I am liking how the granulation works on the hotpress paper. I have changed my paper to hotpress (for not) and changed my brushes to DaVinci rounds so a new year = new things to play with for a while :)
Sounds good Rhonda always wondered what Daniel Smith paints were like.
