There is a medical condition called White Coat Syndrome that is very real. You go in to see your doctor for a rountine check-up and your blood pressure goes up. Your blood pressure at home is fine, but every time you see your doctor, it's high. That's White Coat Syndrome. Your blood pressure is effected by the stress of just seeing your doctor!!
We artists have White Paper Syndrome. You all know what I am talking about here. You see something that inspires you, you get your paper and materials together. Then you just stand there stopped dead in your tracks. Stuck. That's where I'm at right now.
I have been thinking about monotones and greys - all the beautiful greys that can be made. But the white paper is just sitting there on the table, daring me to do something wonderful with it!
I know it won't happen today. I seem especially tired, unenergetic, flat, uninspired, sleepy.
I could just make a lot of greys and see which ones I like the best...as a warm-up stage before even touching that paper. Or I could just take a nap! I think a nice nap gets rid of White Coat Syndrome and White Paper Syndrome, too.
Hope you are inspired and creative today.

Hi Rhonda,
Concur with everything you said.
I recommend the nap, wholeheartedly! :))
Sincerely,
Gary
It can last as long as a year!
However, I hope your nap did the trick and you can get back to yourself fast.
I think that's why I work in so many different mediums. When I feel like you do, I make a piece of jewelry or go sketch outside, just for fun. It never fails to take me back to the white paper inspired and excited. Yesterday, I made a fabric brooch. Today, I tackle the paper!
a nap might be a good idea :) cant go wrong with a nap :)
I tend not use to use white paper anymore, just end up staring at it anyway in frustration
Oh you are so right on,,, I know that feeling oh so well... You procrastinate and do every thing else , anything just not to start...
But, so far it has passed every time.. I'm still hitting that white paper eventually.
Thanks so much, Gary, Alice Jo (a year??? heaven forbid!!!), Elizabeth (yes, I will probably pull out some other medium to get me going again), Jennifer Rose (naps are always a good idea!), and Barbra Joan (I have even been known to clean the house instead of start a painting when I am stalled like this! ha ha).
I know that feeling , sorta feeling that way now. I am hoping to get to a little farm stand tomorrow for some flowers, nap sounds good, hope it passes fast,it will.love,Diana
Dear Rhonda - funny you said that about the white coat syndrome...I have experienced that condition and also the white paper one. Hmm - think maybe a nap does sound like the cure. Maybe I will give it a try too. Have a great week friend. Hugs!
Thanks, Diana and Debbie :) I think we all know the feeling - highs and lows and ruts that we fall into at times. My sister has the White Coat Syndrome, Debbie - her BP goes really high when she has to go to a doctor (which is why she doesn't do it often :(
