Pulling out old paintings that were finished but not interesting...and throwing paint, lifting off, changing, etc.
The goal is to have something interesting. Would this make you walk across a room to look at it more closely or would you just glance over it and move on to the next painting on the wall?

Hi Rhonda, the subject intrigues me (I wonder what the crows are whispering to her...) and also the composition. I like the tonal contrasts too. The area that is conflicting for my attention is the background red and blue. I think if the background was more neutral in colour maybe a green/grey (?) then the figure would have my full attention as her hair would draw the eye more. (The shapes within the background work really well to draw the eye in.) Just my tuppence worth...
Is this one of your larger paintings? I can see in my mind it really working as a small intimate painting that you have to stand close to, to hear the crow's secret or as a larger more imposing piece that would make the figure more intimidating. Her expression could work either way and that is part of the attraction of it to me.
Best wishes.
Thanks, Lisa. I wonder if I could just put plastic over the painting and do a greyish background to see how it would look? I thought the bg added energy but maybe too much? Something to think about. This is a smaller painting - about fourth sheet after a cropped off a lot of the top and some of the sides and bottom that weren't adding anything to the painting = just dead space. She's a bit rough looking but I kind of like her and maybe the crows are gossiping about her?? ha ha
not sure is I would walk across the room to look if I am being honest.the crows add interest and I like the background colours actually, nice contrast to all the black on the bottom of the painting. It just seems like it is missing something, not sure what tho sorry, not much help
Popped back just to say that I saw her in my sidebar and came to take another look..... The interweb equivalent of crossing a room to see a painting in an exhibition?
Thanks, Jennifer Rose. I do appreciate your honesty :) Hope you are healing well.
Lisa, thanks, you made me smile about that - often I go to a blog because of the photo of the art on my sidebar so that may be like seeing something across the room and walking closer to see more :)
