THE BIG BLUE FLOWER

Deb Ward asked me if I had ever finished that blue flower.  I hadn't; instead I sat it aside and looked at it often and didn't know what to do with it.  So I began the stamens inside, trying to go slowly and do a good job.  Now, it's done - I think - but I'm still unsure about the finish.  Too much emphasis on the inside?  Should have been a different color?  What?

Maybe it just needs to sit a while longer for me to like it.

Sherry, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and comment - with all you have going on, it means a lot that you still put yourself out there and visit and comment on blogs!

  4. Looks good to me! How about a tiny bit of the blue used in the middle (cerulean?) somewhere in the petals on the left - looks like you may have used some there but could add a touch more. Maybe soften just a couple spots on the stamens on the right hand side so they soften a bit into the petals. You do blue beautifully!

  5. I think it is is a lovely work. It is also good that you are not satisfied. The desire to have done better should not die. Happy painting.

  7. Thank you so much, Lorraine :) I think a few tweaks and it will be show-ready (maybe!).

  8. A full sheet!? That's pretty amazing. I like the painting as is too--the center of the flower is amazing, as is the modeling on the petals. And of course I love blue.

  9. Thanks, Laura. I often do full sheets but mostly 1/2 sheet sizes but painting wet-in-wet is challenging and fun on a full sheet.

  11. If I may suggest.... a bit of a crop on the right...I know this would make the centre of the flower the centre of the painting but the strong blue would counter-balance it well. It is a very striking painting and will look fantastic framed up.Stunning!
