A song by The Be Good Tanyas stays in my as they sing,
"The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs. The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs."
These birds were painted with no drawing and on a small Lanaquarelle paper from a pad (6" x 8") of cold press watercolor paper.
The red-bellied woodpecker's bill got a little big - maybe he'll grow into it! ha ha
And here's the little indigo bunting again. The black mask on his face makes him look mean, but I don't think he is. He's just in disguise!
So...time to sort through my photo references for the next birds to paint...

Love the Indigo Bunting, Rhonda!
ReplyDeleteHe is a handsome fellow, Kathryn. Hope you and the big boy are staying warm!
ReplyDeleteAh, you did it, and they're fantastic! congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThey are both exquisite; the blue of the bunting are breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Laura and Sherry :) And yet, I still want something else. Are we ever satisfied with our own abilities? It's too this or too that, or not enough! ha ha
ReplyDeleteBrave girl - painting birds without sketching first! And, lucky you to have an indigo bunting at the feeder! He's so handsome!
ReplyDeletePam, doing them with a drawing first makes it easier to do them without drawing the 2nd time - I should just go without drawing and see what happens! Not quite that brave yet, but there's very little drawing going on even in the 1/4 sheet ones.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing your painting without drawing birds. And there are so many kinds of birds where you live.
ReplyDeleteindigo bunting is lovely rhonda ...i've never seen one beautiful markings and colour ... enjoy the tennis... keep warm
