This is painted on a Strathmore blank watercolor card. Small, but not too bad. Perhaps painting small when working out landscapes may take some of the pressure off and then I can go bigger later. I wish I had made the moon (which you can hardly see) larger in the evening sky.
This is good, Rhonda. I especially like the texturing in the grass in the foreground. I am joining an ATC swap group and will be doing my landscapes in the format of 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches! What have I gotten into? But, I agree with you, it might be a good opportunity to work out compositions for larger paintings later.
ReplyDeleteLovely landscape Rhonda. Nice fresh work on the foliage. It's never easy painting small but I agree it helps with bigger compositions. It saves lots of time and pigment too whilst practising.

ReplyDeleteI think that is the best idea Rhonda...I did some small plein air pieces on holiday last year and they were much easier to get looking decent than had I tried them straight away as larger paintings.
ReplyDeleteYes a nice little scene and clever you painting it on a card size. I have wasted so many of these cards as I just don't seem to be able to paint small, think I am a messy splashy painter
ReplyDeleteRhonda, I swear by learning from painting small. It's a great size to learn 'big' so to speak. One warning, though. A mistake on a small piece looks huge compared to a mistake on a big piece. Weird but so true :)

Hallie, I imagine it would be really difficult to sculpt small!! But with painting, you just get smaller brushes :)
Lovely landscape, I like the splattered texture in the foreground. It doesn't seem like an evening sky, but the overall effect is nice.
