ANOTHER FINE MESS

Well, I worked on the magnolia with the bee and really worked and worked and - can you say OverWorked???  It happens.  Especially when I'm not focused enough.

So...how to fix a bad watercolor painting that cannot be wiped back to white?  Make it so it can be wiped back to white = get out the white gesso and gesso over it lightly enough to see the drawing underneath and start again.

That is what I did, drawing a bit heavy-handed but I'll work around that later.  I think this will be a mixed watermedia piece now = watercolor with watercolor crayon and watercolor pencil added.

Hang in there and we'll see where this goes!

The aim is to enjoy your work. Media is not important. Happy painting.

I sometimes add a touch of pastel (maybe white for you). It brightens up the area and gives it a nice look. Try that if you have some. Nothing to lose right?

Thanks for the great gesso tip, Rhonda! A mixed water media painting is the perfect solution!!

Oh, I am enjoying the starts but, usually, this many means I'm not secure in the finishes right now - we'll see where it goes! Thanks, Asit!

I've never added pastel to watercolor - guess I feel I have to stay with water media - but I'm not against pastels (and heaven knows, I have enough of them I never use!). Thanks, Elizabeth

Chris, it works - just adds texture to the paper, of course - but that's not a bad thing.

Chris, the first time I heard of pouring thinned gesso over a painting was in the Alex Powers book and I think he used it quite a bit so push back areas and just start over in areas. Kathleen Conover uses thinned gesso, too.

Mixed media works for me! Enjoy the process. (Easier said than done sometimes!)

Ah Rhonda I do the same thing - Gesso is always a great go too when one wants to redo a spot or too. So glad you are carrying on friend. Hugs.

I didn't know that would work, makes sense why it does but never thought of it before.

glad you are going to try to finish it :)

It seems that we have an idea of where something SHOULD go and when it doesn't go that way, we get frustrated and blocked. Glad I could finish this one by going in a different direction. Thanks, Carol, Debbie and Jennifer Rose.
