ROUGH SEAS REWORK + A BIT OF THIS AND THAT

The acrylic on paper painting I did a while back was not making me happy.

Too blah.  Nothing to make anyone want to look at it.

So I went back with oil pastels and my fingers and made changes.

Hmmm...still missing any pop or interest.

Maybe this one is going in the trash.

I did play around with some other things - just a bit of this and that...

A pink flamingo using just one color = Permanent Alizarin Crimson.
On a scrap sheet of Arches 140# cold press paper.  The seashell is a molded shell out of paper (like you use to make your own paper with a blender and a screen - I used a cookie mold and filled it with the paper pulp and let it dry).

The crow was a print I trimmed around, then added the heart (made by using texture medium in the shape of a heart, letting that dry on the paper and then painting inside it; letting that dry and cutting around it, punching a hole and adding the string).

This one may become a birthday card for my Sweetie - who has a birthday in August :)

Speaking of birthdays, I just got an order from DickBlick.com that included blank Watercolor cards, blank Printmaking cards and blank Mixed Media cards - so I can make tons of cards for birthdays coming up and for the rest of the year - and then some!

Meanwhile, my full sheet hydrangea is sitting waiting for me to finish it and I just do other things instead - can you say displacement behavior??? ha ha

Hi Rhonda :)
To be honest, I liked the first version
much better. It had nice colours and some
shapes in it. Now it looks like a fishing
boat in heavy weather on the sea :)Maybe
some lines with an ink liner to give it
more shape would have been better. Well,
that's what I would have done with it :))
But I like the boat also :))
And I like your flamingo very much, nice
to see it done with one colour.
And the card is a very fine idea :)

Have a beautiful week!

Hi Rhoda,

I really like your two acrylics, particularly the top one. I think you have something there. It might be done as is. I find it very exciting. Love the flamingo and the molded shell. Jeez Louise are you crafty! :) Cute crow with a heart.

Pastels did wonders to the work. Never think no one will give it a look. Some one else may find very interesting, what you found not so interesting. You do not like it because it did not turn out the way you wanted it to.

Both pieces with the molded paper are just beautiful, Rhonda. I love that additional bit of interest and it takes this from wonderful to spectacular. As to the first piece, I actually loved it as it was...it was like a little distant village or big house sitting out there. I wanted to walk to it and see more.

That flamingo is wonderful.

I get something big going and leave it sitting while I dink around with other things, too. I've decided it's because my mind is processing bits and isn't ready to move forward. Sounds better than Alice has trouble finishing things!!

Thank you so much for your honesty, Mowe. I agree with you after looking at both of them together - maybe I can still make changes...

Thanks, Carol, Asit, Sherry and Alice Jo. Carol, I used to make these molded pieces when making paper - it was messy but fun and you have to do a lot (not like picking up a brush and watercolor and dabbing for a while!).

I think the consensus is that the top acrylic painting was the best - hmmm... well, we'll see where it goes from here. I do not care for the second, later version so more fiddling...

I think I prefer the painting before you used oil pastels on it, seemed more dramatic *shrugs* its probably still fixable if you dont mind taking turps to the oil pastels, since you said above you might still fiddle with it :)

love your flamingo :D its cute

Thanks, Jennifer Rose. It seems everyone liked it before - and yet it seemed to need something else...I will wipe it back and try again...
