WORK - OR OVERWORK?

I worked more on the Movement in Blue hydrangea painting.  I cropped it down on the left and right edges, tried to darken some areas.  And I think it's overworked.  It actually looks better in the photo than in person...oh, well.  Have another started from another photo.  My hydrangea by the front door is still blooming out, after I trimmed off some huge blooms that were turning pale violet grey.   The painting began as this (well, this was the 3rd stage).

And it became this.  Hard to get the pale petals to the right to read as anything without putting a little color on them...and then it became too much.

Sometimes one needs a painting angel to sit on your shoulder and say, "That's enough.  Put the brush down."

Sometimes these work, sometimes they don't...starting another soon.

Dear Rhonda, plse be kind to yourself. Another artist told me, "The less, the better." Best wishes, Sadami

Ah, yes, everything that drips off of my brush cannot be a masterpiece, Sadami! ha ha I knew about half-way through that it wasn't working but kept going...live and learn!!!

Not to worry. Most of us do not know when to stop. Keep at it. Just enjoy your work.

Rhonda, I think it works beautifully. It looks as though the sunlight is coming through the petals.

Can't tell you how many times I've fooled myself thinking I can "fix" it. It's funny because I know as I'm doing it, it's not getting better but I keep going anyways. Will you loan me that angel when you find her?

Thanks so much, Asit, Sherry and Elizabeth! Yes, we each need an extra pair of eyes, at times...funny how some paintings just flow and others - not so much! And yet we continue...because sometimes the paintings just flow! ha ha
