ANOTHER HYDRANGEA + POTTER'S PINK BY DANIEL SMITH

Next step on this one, after drawing and then going over the drawn lines with the Elegant Writer pens in black ink and bleeding the color out using a brush with just clean water...

I did use a little Potter's Pink on the petals and it granulates well but isn't as pretty a pink as Rhodonite Genuine, so returned to that favorite instead.

I'm sure the Potter's Pink has it's place - here is a photo I took of it on the palette with the Lunar Red Rock (which is what I used to paint the hint of red bricks in the background).  Both are a bit gritty in feel when you add water and mix them on the palette.  Funny how pretty the tube color is compared to the actual color of Potter's Pink on the paper...

Potter's Pink - top

Moonglow

Potter's Pink + Manganese Blue Hue mixed
fading out to Manganese Blue Hue and
Mineral Violet (Holbein) at the bottom right edge.

It's fun to play with colors and see what they will do.

I really like this. It's different from your other hydrangeas because of the outline, but it's a really cool painting. I like seeing the different watercolor paints and how some of the colors mixed and the granulations.

Looking good Rhonda.

Moonglow is my favorite Daniel Smith color.

Thanks, Tinna, Carol (you inspired this one!!), and Elizabeth.

I think I made a mistake in calling that second color Moonglow because it can't be that - I think it is Lunar Red Rock or something like that, instead maybe mixed with a little Moonglow? It doesn't have the oomph Moonglow has...(I am doing a background in Moonglow now and I can tell the difference because Moonglow really separates into 2-3 colors if you use a lot of water and I love it for backgrounds and darks).

and that is a big colour difference between the tube and the actual paint, I'd complain but thats probably just me :p

Really stunning results here, Rhonda. Those hydrangeas you did are my favorite yet!

Dear Rhonda thanks for sharing these lovely colors. Daniel Smith's watercolors are just excellent. I am like you think I like Rhodonite Genuine best.

Thanks, Jennifer Rose, Sherry and Debbie. I wonder why I can now get Daniel Smith paints from Cheap Joe for less than I can get them from Daniel Smith? Seems like they are cutting themselves out of the art market by just selling their products - and selling them for more than other art supply stores!
