NOTHING

What have I been doing?  Nothing.  Nothing but watching the snow pile up around the house, around the cars, in the driveway, on the trees.  Nothing but watching the weather channel so I know exactly how cold it is out there right now - and how cold it will be tomorrow.  (Why this matters, I don't know, but I seem mesmerized by all the photos and words about traffic at a standstill and power outages and snow depths.)

My car battery is dead.  I tried to move her before the last snow (6 inches more on the ground and then a little icing on top of that) but it wouldn't turn over.  So it's sitting on the street.  Dead.  Doing nothing.  Being plowed in each time the snowplow comes by to clean the road.

This weather makes me do nothing.  Nothing but watch t.v. and read = escapism.

My little art room is cold = we have to open the garage door from the downstairs to the garage to keep the water pipes from freezing when it gets down to -20F.  I don't want to go into my little art room to do anything.  So I do nothing.

I hope the temperature rises soon and the snow melts and we begin to see spring buds starting...it only took a week to put me into a real slump and another week of the same to come...winter is not my favorite season.  I hope some of you out there enjoy this snow.  As for me, I could do without ever seeing snow again - ever.

I did some sketching in the my sketchbook (possible plans for future paintings).  I didn't have to get off the sofa to do that.

And the two Dean Nimmer books I ordered have arrived.  I've begun looking through them but not doing any exercises from the book yet.  Maybe it will be a spring thing...

Come on, Spring!!!

Here's to doing NOTHING!!! Sometimes that's exactly what you need to do.
We let the water drip in the guest bath and it hasn't frozen - yet. My car, in garage for 2 weeks - she's probably got a dead battery; she tells me she is just fine where she is, not planning on worrying about moving until spring!!! But she is a little dismayed by how dirty she is - ready for a shower! (LOL)
Hang in there, spring is just around the bend.

I do love the winter but admit that a bit of spring (especially the rains!) would be nice. I'm an anomaly even unto myself. I'm so frantically knitting right now that I have no time left for anything else. Baby shower on Saturday. A lot to do before then!

I totally hear you about doing nothing. If I didn't have to go to work, I'd never get off my sofa in this weather. Even the stuff I used to do after work (paint, go figure drawing, theatre)I'm not doing.

All I want to do is come home, get warm and stay in. I'm with you...c'mon spring!

Good luck with your car battery. I've been hearing about a lot of dead cars lately.

And why is it 5 degrees where I live and 40 degrees in Anchorage? What's wrong with this picture????

Our island is due to get snow this afternoon and through the evening. We usually get one or two snowfalls a year, if that, and it's gone in a day or two. But I spent the first 40 years of my life in Massachusetts so my heart goes out to you.
I wish you an early spring!

It sounds like you've gone dormant. Sometimes I lay in bed and pronounce, "I hereby cancel today!" Sadly, today happens in spite of my attempts. I can totally understand where you're coming from! In the meantime, maybe you should try a long, hot bath with chocolate and your new books. In fact, I may go give it a shot myself.. You have the perfect excuse!

I mostly wish you warmth in your little cold studio! This is my FAVORITE time of year, because I have the perfect excuse to stay inside and paint away. Too much else going on in spring, summer, and fall, and I usually feel guilty giving it the time. However, to just paint all day at least requires a warm enough room. Can you go back to painting in the kitchen or whereever you painted once upon a time Before Studio?
So sorry about your battery and now-plowed-in car.

Thanks so much for the comments - sometimes nothing is just what you have to do and want to do! And then that feeling passes - usually when you can get back out (get the car battery and get out for a haircut and color that was badly needed). Not feeling so rough now :) And it actually is going to get to 34F!!! today!!!! Wheeeee!!! Cold coming back tomorrow but one day of warmer weather and 34 feels like a heatwave after a week of -0 temps!
