TOO SIMPLISTIC

For this one, using watercolor and ink, I began with the drawing and the watercolor.  Then I put in the ink lines and feathers.  Then it needed a background.
Then I didn't like it anymore.
Too simplistic.

Oh no Rhonda - I think it is great. The background really enhances the bird and makes him/her stand out! Have a great day.

I think if you wash over that green background with blue and make it water, it will do the trick. Of course, what the heck do I know! I couldn't paint my way out of a paper bag! LOL It really is a pretty painting, Rhonda and green is my favorite color so for me it is just wonderful as it stands.

How about making the background a really dark, mottled green?

Thanks, Debbie and Sherry. I don't think water would do but perhaps something else - it needs darker values somewhere.
Jane, how good to hear from you!! Hope you are doing well. Yes, it needs some dark values and I may pick it up again - but right now I'm avoiding those portraits I need to finish! ha ha

I like the green with the blue beak. I also like the gesture in the background, it gives your painting movement.

Thanks, Carol. The little blue heron has a lot of violet, blue and even reddish colors in it.
