THAT'S NOT A ROBIN

Found a half-way decent photo of a robin taken on the deck, but started this small one (7.5 x 11) first.  A pelican from our Anna Maria Island trip last winter - or maybe this winter since winter still seems to be hanging on with colder temperatures, blustery days and snow??

Really??  Snow at the end of March?  What a winter this has been.  This little pelican doesn't have to worry about that, though.

I think, since I've begun painting these birds, I like about 1/3 of them and 2/3 I'll throw away.  My goal is to paint these looser, either by not drawing or just drawing lightly and being looser with the paint application.  I've only succeeded in about 1/3 so far.  But practice makes...you know...

What great colors--that green-blue is really lovely. And I like the composition too.
You've certainly produced a lot of bird paintings, lots of really good ones!
I hope you won't throw any away ... I've held on to some paintings I was unhappy with, and found that after a time I liked them.

Love the point of view and your colors on this painting, Rhonda. Pelicans are so cool. I remember times from when I was kid and we had snow in May before. In recent memory (about 11 years ago), I do remember snow in early April too. Why? Because my daughter was out here with Brandon before they got married and we started the week with snow and ended it with high 60's low 70's. So drab and brown here. I haven't been outside since Friday, though I will go out today. Been in 30's in the morning and got up to 59 while I was out on Friday. No buds, no flowers yet though. Can't say I've even seen a robin yet but I'm guessing they are out there since some of my fellow bloggers as far north as Canada are reporting their return.

Thanks so much, Caroline, Larua and Sherry. We had a mini blizzard yesterday afternoon, Sherry - the snow was flying around in big flakes, covered the grass, then 2 hours later it was all gone. But cold temps here again.
