PITCHER PLANTS HANGING

I was going to use the acrylic ink + watercolor technique for this.  But then I realized that I don't like using masking fluid and I don't do well with using it (the hard edges leave me struggling to soften without wiping away everything).  So...just went the straight watercolor route with this painting.

From a photo taken in Florida a few year's ago.  Sweetie and I were in a park and there was a plant sale. Saw these hanging in individual pots from a hanger - they are pitcher plants and looked so interesting.

Which way do you like them best?  They actually were hanging down like the second version, but I kind of like the first one that is upside down.

More to do to finish it and I have a couple of experimental things going on, too.

I do love how your background has turned out, Rhonda. Hard for me to tell which way I like best.

Rhonda, both have strong tributes but I do lean toward the upside down version :) The background you have going on is absolutely dreamy! Getting lost in it. Can't wait to see the finished piece. I may then tell us which way it wants to be positioned.

Wow, I am not sure which way I like best. Maybe both, LOL. Very interesting. Sounds like you are having fun with it.

Going to be full of great texture and for me I like the upside down one, it is an interesting composition that way

Rhonda, love these both versions! Did you try to turn them to left/right side? Love background too!

Thanks so much for your comments, Sadami, Sherry, Pam and Carol! In looking closely at the photograph again I see that the top version is correct - the bulb should be on the bottom to hold the insect that slides down the leaf and lip of the plant into the bottom.

Thanks, Lorraine and humbird. I didn't try it sideways, humbird - it would look odd since the plants have to be upright (in a manner of speaking). The top one is actually correct, now that I see the photo again - it just threw me that the leaf sticks up from the top in an upside down way - I guess that's to get the insect on the leaf and moving down into the lip of the pitcher plant where it falls into the bulb.
