RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER

Again, in my Strathmore Visual Journal (9" x 12", 90# watercolor paper); another one without drawing before painting.  However, I think I'm getting too tight with these.  I need to stay loose and fresh - that is the goal.  So, instead of drawing with the rigger brush, I'll use a bigger brush and try to make more shapes.

I didn't paint yesterday - didn't do much of anything due to a flare-up of a gallbladder problem I was diagnosed with this month.  I tell you, it's all a straight run downhill after 50!!!

Hi Rhonda! I am a fan of your art, your creativity, admire your boldness in going forward with art works, trying new things...
but in life, also try to have a courage to move forward. You are downhill, if you want to, but you are still climbing up if you say so.
Feel difference? We define ourselves with words and actions...
Try take some rest, new diet, and things will be better. Wish you All the Best!

great to see you doing these gorgeous bird watercolours - you know I'm a big fan of birds! I'm always impressed when artists paint with no predrawing - I really need the comfort of those pencil lines to guide me!

oh no gallbladder BUMMER! So does it have to come out, or are they going to fix it with diet? And I PROMISE THIS year is going to be GREAT!
take care, Jane

Thanks, humbird :) I'm not down, just know I have to make a major change in my diet if I'm going to feel okay and everyone knows how I love my chocolate! ha ha

Thanks, Sharon, it's not that hard and just slows you down. I still want looser work to come through and thought not drawing would do it but maybe I also need to time myself!

Vicki, thanks!

Jane, no surgery yet. They gave me NO information so I got it all from the internet medical sites and it looks like diet may make a difference. Thanks for the concern and for the promise :) ha ha

Fabulous Rhonda. Great work with just a brush. The animals are not easy and it is hard not to get tight but yours is fab. Love the texture on the left too.

Thanks, Laura and Sherry :)
Sherry, I need to learn to eat right and healthy (something I've rarely done in my life and now it's showing!!)
