CAN YOU HAVE A LOOSE COLORED PENCIL PAINTING?

I saw many lovely works at the Colored Pencil Show at The Barn in Mariemont - the majority were very photorealistic (or close to it).  However, there was one that looked more like a watercolor that caught my eye.  I was told that the artist probably used turpentine to wet the colored pencil on the paper and move the color like watercolor.  The look appeals to me.  If I took up colored pencil, I'd probably do it this way.

It's the painting at the top,
called Woodland Light, by Margie Hopkins
and it is even more beautiful in person
(just couldn't get decent shots that didn't have reflections in them).

Ms. Hopkins also won 1st place for her hyperrealistic painting of the man and dog.    Some of the small landscapes were looser, too - you could see the pencil strokes (which I like); and one man does colored pencil, building up from squiggled lines and those lines show in all his work.  Can't recall his name, but I think it was Mike Paolercio.

And here are a few from the last batch of Christmas/holiday cards for me...

Have a great weekend.  Only one more full week before Christmas!

I always admire the detail in cp drawings and this is the first time I've seen cp used in such a loose way - I agree this is the sort of style that would appeal to me if I were to take it up - I've had a little dabble with cp and got a whole load of them sitting in a draw not doing a lot!

Hello Rhonda:) Lovely cp drawings, but I'm afraid I'm more a person for the beautiful christmas cards. Did you make them or did you get them? I love them both! Have a nice sunday!

I love the snowman! Not sure I like the turp'd color pencil piece...Why not just do watercolors then? Or watercolor pencils? Not to be contrary or anything...LOL But to each their own when it comes to art.

I'm glad you all enjoyed seeing more cp work! And thanks for the comments on the final cards (Renate, I painted them - I've painted 13 so far and think that will be all unless I do another 1-2 during class Tuesday).
Sherry, I've heard of using turps on pastel, too - gives it another look. I liked the looseness of the cp with turps but, yes, it did look like a watercolor with some extra pencil strokes of color in there.
