PEPPERS FINISHED

In class Tuesday, we all finished our pepper paintings.  Nancy had one she liked but didn't finish the glazing one so she has decided the wet-in-wet style is for her.  Linda did both styles and likes both but said she had more fun doing the wet-in-wet.  She liked both of her paintings enough to say she might put one (or both) on the wall!  That makes me happy!  I like that they are creating things that make them happy and make them feel like they are learning and growing.

Here is my finished one.

The one with the dark background is now in "the round file" = the trash!  It just didn't make it and I knew when I saw the dark green background on it that it wasn't going to make it.  Why I put in the dark background before even putting in the shadow shape, I'm not sure; just playing and seeing "what if", I guess.

Next week we're going to make some Christmas/holiday cards on the Strathmore blank cards from Daniel Smith (all the suppliers have them but DS is cheapest right now on the blank cards).

Hi Rhonda! I normally work as I eat lunch but not today! It's a pleasure to browse through your postings that I've missed of late.

Had to see the green bkg painting that's now in the circular file. I think you were onto something. What did surprise me is the white paper you left to insert the shadow area. What if you had your bkg go right up to the peppers and use it to enhance the second shadow area? That way you'd keep some of the local color of the background.

In this finished piece... the red pepper that's laying down is sooooo real! Beautiful!

Thanks, Kathryn and Sherry :)

Pam, thanks for your comment - I did put shadow into that shape but cut around it first with the dark bg green. When I put the shadow shape in, it had to be soooo very dark that it didn't work at all. Oh, well, live and learn! ha ha

Thanks, Susan and Ann :) I was pleased with 2 versions of this but that 3rd one had to go! ha ha

I think you did a nice job with the shadows and the hints of shape/indentations in the peppers. The shadows in particular have a good light quality and reflection to them.

Thanks, Tina! I appreciate your comments on this one. I'm remiss in visiting a lot of my favorite blogs right now - but hope to get back in the swing after the holiday rush is over! Have a wonderful Christmas :)
