JUST SOME UNFINISHED THINGS

Looking at this one through the red glass, it is pretty dull in value differences.  I need to pop up some darks to get this little blossom to pop more.  It's just a fourth sheet painting I'm fiddling with when I don't want to paint on the Jester.

I'm spending no more than 1/2 hour at a time on her, slowing adding in things and trying to work slowly to see the shapes (that jester costume can make you cross-eyed!).

(The glare is from the overhead light on that side of the full sheet painting - sorry about that!).

Today is Friday before a 3-day weekend here in the U.S. (honoring Memorial Day on Monday).  The weather is supposed to be blisteringly hot hot hot for everyone's cook-outs on Sunday or Monday.  I guess that's better than rain but when it goes over 90F, I get wilted.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.  Stay safe!

Jester is coming along great - if you touch that crow I'll have to "wup" you! I'm proud of you - going slow and letting it dry in between - let's see how that works! Don't worry that she may not be ready this year for a show - she will be next year!

Rhonda - love your Jester - gorgeous colors. Thanks for sharing - I live in Ohio and I know it is truly going to be hot this week-end. Hope you have a great memorial day. I will be stopping by again soon hope to see Jester completed. God Bless!

Like Deb, I think that crow is just the best, so don't do anything else with him! the jester is coming along so well, and I like the colors of that eye-catching (or should I say eye-crossing?)outfit.

I love your two paintings, Rhonda. The jester is especially fabulous but I think that branch on the flower looks so real! I'm with you on the heat/weather. Except my threshold is about 75. Over that and I'm in the house. The only that used to work for getting me outdoors in that kind of heat was swimming. Unfortunately, I don't have my own pool and even if I did, I can't imagine stuffing myself into a bathing suit these days. I'd be mortified.

Your jester is coming along so beautifully, Rhonda. Glad to hear you are taking your time.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend!!

The flower is absolutely stunning and a dark drop of abstracted background will let that baby sing! Jester is getting better and better!

You two have a great weekend!

Thanks, Deb and Debbie :) Debbie - stay cool, if you can, this weekend! It's going to be a scorcher - what a strange year we've had, weatherwise, already!

Thanks, Susan and Kathryn :)

Sherry, we all feel that way about bathing suits after we hit 40, I think :( Hard to be okay in your body when it's changed to much and you didn't even realize it!! I may work more on the blossom.

Thanks, Pam :) You're right about a few darks into the bg to make it work - I'll have to see that and work on it this weekend.

I really like the flower, Rhonda. Value is important, of course, plenty of evidence to back that up. But it's not everything, and I like the flower the way it is. Check out Mondrian's "Blue Chrysanthemum" sometime, an image of which has been on our wall forever. Lack of value has its own appeal.

Thanks, Nick. I did look up Mondrian's BC - (you had me at "Blue"!!); lovely and a lot of depth in that; not what I'd expect from a Mondrian at all. Unfortunately, I've adjusted the flower painting - not too dark but a touch of some granulating darker values around the bg. "Lack of value has its own appeal." I'll have to remember that!
