SMALL CAW GIRL STUDY

I drove over to Deb's Thursday morning - a beautiful drive in sunny, warm weather - to paint with Deb and Sharon.  I admit, we spent more time talking (catching up) and having the nice lunch Deb provided than we did actually painting.  And I didn't have anything planned.  So did this little study for another caw girl painting.  Just working on color choices and such to see if I want to paint this one larger.  I'm thinking I'll leave the Caw Girls with white or pale backgrounds so they stand out.  I like that and I don't really want to place them in any recognizable background situation.  I will work on this a bit more, adding to her shadow and touching some areas in the face but I like the unfinished look of her face now.  The crow's claws/talons need to be larger and longer, too.

Ordered some Daniel Smith paints (mostly refills for ones running low) and got those in yesterday.  A new one = Shadow Violet that Carol Carter uses.  Have to try it.  Going to make another order from Cheap Joe's today.  I'm stocking up on things for the spring Myrna Wacknov workshop I'm taking this April!!  Talk about something totally different :)

Have a wonderful weekend.  We are in the path of some serious storms coming.  I hope it doesn't blow up a tornado.  I can't imagine what those people in Missouri, Illinois and southwestern Kentucky are going through right now after the Feb. 29th twisters hit so many towns.

Love what you are doing with this one, Rhonda and I agree the claws need to be larger and longer (holding onto her shoulder). You've done a great job with this one so far. Love the starkness of the empty background, too.

This looks great! YOu must have worked up a storm yesterday afternoon/evening! I've gotten behind on blogs - but now I know what you guys were talking about yesterday! Good luck on your show entries. (PS - the blog verifications seem easier to read now but looooonger to type!!!)

Thanks Maggie, safe so far but sounding scary later in the day for us. We're not close to the river (which makes a difference because tornados often seem to run along the riversides).

Thanks, Carol. Don't know why I made them so wimpy - need to really have them grabbing onto her.

Deb, I didn't do another thing after leaving your place - this was the stage it was in. We were just gabbing so much, we weren't watching what each one was painting :) ha ha Loved sharing the day, though, and catching up.

There is a great sense of balance to this one. I particularly like the way that you have rendered the knee and the weight of the figure.

I saw some of the devastation on the news last night from the storms in the states. I hope they have passed you by and you and yours are staying safe. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks, Lisa. Still a bit more to do on this one but not too much. The horrible storms were all in the counties just south of us and then moved to the east.

Rhonda...I love this study so far and hope you will go bigger with it. Love the luminosity of the girl, she looks like she is made of liquid gold.

I am glad to hear you guys are safe where you are, what a miserable number of really terrible storms!

Thanks, Susan. I did a bit more but made the claws too big. I need to practice bird feet!! Yes, those storms were scary - in our county but the southern tip so bypassed us and we just got rain. So many homes and families lost :(
