FUNKY FIGURE

I had a photo from a workshop I took with Janet Rogers in Florida a few years ago.  She had her granddaughter and 2 other folks come in to be our models for the day and we painted from them.  This is one of the set-ups with her granddaughter wearing a floppy hat and white blouse.  The young girls loved dressing up for us.

I sketched the drawing out on tracing paper and then traced a bit of that onto my watercolor paper, spritzed the paper completely and began painting, letting the paint fizzle out at the edges.  Fun!

I'm calling this one
Old Fashioned

It's on a half sheet of Fabriano Artistico 140# cold press paper.

Just need to reiterate some of the darkest darks and get the skin color in the hands and it's done.  I kind of like the fuzzy look.

Had my first hour-long massage yesterday and it was wonderful but I was so tired yesterday, I was yawning and ready for a nap all afternoon and evening.  Even took at little 1/2 hour nap late afternoon.  I think it means she (Kristin with magic hands!) really worked those tight muscles and my body was tired from the toxins and stress released.  Have another appointment in two weeks for another.  She was gentle but firm and I already have more painless movement in my neck.

Rhonda, I love the texture you have created.... (inadvertently)? I presume this painting is a new one from your sketch, not one you did at the workshop? I don’t know this artist, but will look her up. It might be interesting to reverse what you’ve done (a new painting of course!) and keep the model and clothes quite pale and make the background really dark and fuzzy…just a thought.

I am so glad that the massage felt good. I love them! I got one after a walking vacation and it did wonders for my knees and feet. I hope it keeps working for you!

Hoping that massage staves off those headaches too. Love this piece. There is mystery to it!

Thanks, Cindi; I've been to 2 of Janet's workshops and she really paints loose and free but she changes her colors a lot - showing that, until it's dry, you can make major changes in watercolor :) She's a great person, too.

Maggie, I spritzed the paper again to get all the texture look on this - probably should have left it alone but sometimes that spray bottle just calls to me! ha ha I like the idea of doing it flip-flopped and will try it again. I always like the set-up and floppy hat, etc. Janet Rogers paints beautiful, loose flowers and mostly women and children. She teaches in the U.S. and in Italy, I think - her husband, also an artist, is Steve Rogers.

It did help me but the neck is still stiff and sore (not as much but it's still there - I wish I knew what the chiropractor did with that metal pop-gun thing). Only problem was the left thigh going numb when she was working on me! A nerve problem, seems like?

So far, so good, Sherry, no migraines since Monday - just wish the neck stiffness and pain was totally gone gone gone!!

Maggie, forgot to answer your questions - the photo was from the workshop but the painting was done just the other day. I liked the fuzzy look that happened when I spritzed the paper and then painted on that, allowing the water to bleed out the edges - could be something to play with more.

Massages make me droopy afterward too, but so heavenly during! Hope it helps your headaches.

Thanks, Jane and Deb :) I'm hoping the massage is a good thing - if I can afford it more than once a month :)
