MAGNOLIA CONTINUED

Working on this one slowly, having fun with the wet-in-wet technique (which gives me plenty of time to drop in colors and tilt the paper and let the paint move).

I'm saving the flower for last and will need to darken some areas of the caramel leaves before moving on.

This is on 1/2 sheet Arches 140# coldpress.

And this is where it stands right now.

What's your favorite way to paint?  Wet on dry?  Drybrush?  Wet in wet?  Masking and pouring?
A combination of all techniques?

Progressing beautifully, Rhonda. I think I us a bit of them all from time to time.

Oh, I love the rich colors! I know that you use just the right technique for what is left to paint.

This is looking great!! I like all the techniques you mentioned but my usual splashing, pouring, tilting the page and drips, I love drips.

Mmmmm, this is looking really good. I can't wait until you get to the flower.

I have no idea what my favorite way to paint is. I'm just glad when I have the time to paint.

This is just stunning already!

Carol, knowing all the tricks helps when you need something different :)

Thanks, Christiane and Jane. Jane, I love drips, too, but none on this one since I think it needs to be more smooth :)

Tim, hope I don't disappoint with the grand finale flower!

Carol, thanks; I know what you mean - time, for most people, is the main staple that is needed the most.

Thanks, Autumn!

You are very patient and I'm enjoying watching the progress.

I like the teenie-weenie photo id.

The colors are so rich, good.
And I like that the paper size is rather big. My sketchbook is comfortable for travel and quick sketches, but I miss big sheet, which gives real pleasure and frees the hand+brush.
I can not choose the technique, all of them are so intriguing.
And I like your new profile picture. You are so sporty.

Thanks, Ann. I've been painting - but only for the online course and am not sharing that stuff until it's over :)

Thanks, Hallie, Gary and Irina :)

Ooooo, you've hit the underside of the magnolia leaf perfectly. This piece is all together yummy. Love your lights/darks and the flow of colors.

I paint mostly dry brush as I'm in a hurry when painting plein air. I'm thinking of purchasing a tiny battery powered fan so I can get my paper to dry quicker in this humidity!

Looking forward to the outcome :)

Thanks, Pam. I'm hoping to get time to finish it this week! So busy lately.
