POLLY, LIEUTENANT DAN, BO, AND OTHERS

We now have 3 very active, hoppy, jumping, skitterish little froggies.  Taking the top off their temporary home to feed them, change the crickets' food, etc. is now a two person job - one to put their hand over the top to keep the little ones from jumping out and onto the floor (a huge space to travel for such a little thing) and one to change the water, food, etc.  Sweetie was picking Polly off the floor last night as we tried to keep them inside the container.  It's going to get pretty crazy around here with 2 more just about to turn to frogs and enter the froggie container.  I haven't a clue how we're going to keep track and keep safe all 23 of them!!!

But the ones who are now definitely little froggies are a lovely jade green color!  So cute!!!!  Unfortunately, they jump around so much it's going to be difficult to get a clear photo of any of them for a while.  Maybe they will settle down once they get a bit bigger but just imagine 3 of these (and all 3 are smaller than this photo shows this one and yet looking fully developed with great big eyes and cute little sucker toes and a pretty green color coming on).  Oh, I do hope they all survive and grow and can be released back into the wilds of the wooded area around the yard to live out their lives!

I'll try to snap more photos soon...

Have a hoppy day!

How did you decide to raise these little guys? How long do you have to wait to release them?

Well, Sweetie was cleaning out the pool and saw the eggs/tadpoles. Decided to save some and came inside with 23 in a small aquarium. So now we're raising them! ha ha

You seem to really have your hands full with these little guys. They will reward you by giving you all kinds of painting references...if they sit still long enough for you to take pictures:-)

I thought that was a painting! Hmm, maybe you should do a frog painting?

Rhonda, do you have a few rocks in the tank for them to jump around on now? Thanks for the update. So cute!

After their release, you'll never be able to walk around your backyard without worrying about stepping on one of the tadkids. This is so much fun to follow--and thanks for saving these guys.

Hi,Rhonda,
Sooo cute!! I love them all. Well, when do these frogs start to eat bugs? I mean, when growing tadpoles begin having different food? Sorry, but form my curioustily.
Cheers,Sadami

You are now dealing with exactly what I imagined you'd be dealing with! LOL (Not laughing at you, but with you!) My heart goes out to you and I do hope you can keep them safe indeed! And that they can be released soon...

Christiane, I don't think they would sit still to paint - hard enough to get a photo! ha ha They really do hop all over as soon as you open the top of the container and one has jumped from the container on the table to the floor!! Good thing our cat wasn't around.

Katherine, a painting may be in order when they get a bit bigger...

Carol, no rocks needed - they stick to the sides of the container and just sit there (or just under the lip of the container, hiding).

Hallie, it will be so cool to think of them returning next year!

Dan, good thing you're rooting for your namesake :)

Sadami they eat what is called pinhead crickets - little tiny things that look like specks of black on the white paper towel. Sweetie got them from the local aquarium where he volunteers. Will get some fresh every week for them.

Thanks, Jan, Celeste and Autumn - I'm glad you're enjoying the photos and chat about them.

My imagination is just running...er...hopping away with these little babies! Please don't step on any of them!

Autumn, we've learned to stop and not move our feet when one escapes the container and lands on the floor - so far, no casualties!
