PLAYING WITH COLOR AND TEXTURE

When I get into a rut, it's good to play for a while.  Explore without worrying about the outcome.  So picked up an old piece of YUPO and let the colors do their thing on it.  This is what came from just putting down color, splattering, rolling with a foam roller to smooth the texture a bit...

Might play with this a bit more.  The photo is showing more blue than is in the painting - it's more muted than this looks.  Since it's just play, I won't worry about taking a better photo.

I'm completely hooked by all that textures, also by the intriguing mood set up by the deep shadow around the crow's eye, could this be the beginning of another series of crows based on texture? "a different opinion was a great start and this one seems to follow the lead so far

Thanks, Teresa. It's fun to just create texture with watercolor on YUPO and see where it leads. I guess I love texture no matter how it's made.

It might be play, but it's beautiful! Probably BECAUSE it's play, and your free playful style is evident.
And I love the colors! Did your painting at The Barn sell? I saw a red dot on it!

The texture is wonderful..reminds me of an unpolished turquoise stone!

Thanks, Katherine. Yes! It sold on Good Friday to someone who was at the soiree the previous weekend :) I am very pleased! Were there many sold? Did you go to the Appalachian thing this weekend?

Oh, I like the sound of that, Christiane! Thanks :)

Looking great Rhonda , and that YUPO stuff sounds so interesting, I don't think it is something they sell here.
Have fun.

Thanks, Dee, Sadami, Myrna and Jane :) YUPO does have it's good points and once sealed you can still remove some things with alcohol but some things stick well. I've never used acrylics on it and I've heard that acrylics, if put on thickly, will peel off of the YUPO because it's just plastic. I do like the way the watercolor acts up on the surface :)
