DO YOU WANT THE BAD NEWS FIRST OR THE GOOD NEWS?

The bad news is:
My painting of the peeps didn't get into the Manifest Gallery show.  I really didn't think it would but you never know.  I don't think they want anything that isn't edgey and out of the box and the cuteness of the peeps might have put the jury off.  However, it was a most elegant and gracious rejection letter :)

The good news is:
I received the Flashbag I special ordered, made from one of Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson's paper painting images called Raucous Ravens.  Isn't it fantastic???  The image repeats all around, underneath and even inside and it's sturdy enough (made from a heavy plastic/vinyl concoction) to hold a lot.  I may just make it my purse for a while :)  Flashbags are made by a company in Vermont and you can see what they offer - and which artists they offer - by going to their site.  They were wonderful to work with and I'd definitely return - and intend to do so - for presents in the future for all of my artsy funky lady friends.

This is way cool! Sorry about the show. I spent a while playing with hand painted canvas totes...painting and sewing (lol)....but I have a love/hate relationship with sewing!!!! I just love wearable and usable art, though. Sorry I have not commented on your blog lately....have been busy.

Gretchen, I saw Elizabeth's flashbags at a gallery in St. Augustine, FL during our April trip - loved them but not quite the painting I wanted so came home, checked out more and saw the ravens - they special made it for me and will do so for you, too! And they were really great to work with. I'm definitely taking this one to my next watercolor society meeting and any gallery shows I attend to show it off.

Jane, yeah, and I was that happy when I unwrapped it from the box!!!

Yes, other shows, other jurors, just another day :) But my tote made my day!

Maggie, if it was left to me to sew anything, we would all be running around naked! You are one busy lady and that's a good thing :)

Glad for you smile.

Thanks for all the links over the past few days...you have kept me busy enjoying a lot of good information! So glad you are an Eliz Nelson fan too! She came and demo'd at my art league here in Leesburg, FL in March and will do a workshop next winter. Can't wait. I showed her video and taught a class on her technique and one of my students won a real honor (see my blog!)
The bag is beautiful.

Great bag Rhonda and you can have them custom made with your own art on the bag. A wonderful way to celebrate your artistic endeavors and promote yourself at the same time!

Dear Rhonda,
If I were near, certainly, I dashed to you and gave you a big hug. Never worry about the rejection. (Otherwise, worries and disappointments kill an artist.) Judgement criterion are subjective. My another artist friend said, "Rejection means one step closer to your goal." However, a value system is not absolute. Think about impressionists. How did society and art world treat them all? Also, a same work gets through one exhibition selection and rejected by another. Believe in yourself, your talent and ability. Yes, you have, Rhonda.
Have good backups such as family & friends. Yes, you have, at least, I'm here, stand besides you.
That's what I've strongly told myself recently and will do so in the future. Then, move on~! Of course, many blog Friends' cheers have supported me.
The bag and your smile are so lovely. You can run business. When you become a millioner, please do not forget this poor artist in Sydney.
Rhonda, show me your smile!

Thanks, Irina. That shirt is the Coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs bird (a cereal here that I wouldn't eat but the shirt was given to me and it's cute).

I've been a fan of Elizabeth's for quite a long time, Ginny. Sounds like you taught your student her techniques well :)

Vicki, thanks. Not too worried about the show - I always like to go to ones I don't get in and see if I agree on the selection, though :) ha ha

Myrna, I never thought about doing my own artwork on them - I might check that out :)

Sadami, don't worry about me; I'm fine about this one. I still think the peeps are cute :) And you're right about shows - my painting that is in the WACC juried show right now I tried to get into the Viewpoint juried show and it wasn't accepted. I knew it was a good image so entered it in this one and got in - and sold the painting :)

Rhonda, your wonderful personality makes me smile. You seem so delighted with your bag, and I don't blame you! Elizabeth's art is just wonderful.

Your bird paintings Rhonda are really beautiful, I guess the peeps were not for them but maybe they would have loved the crows! Your bag is great and a lovely photo of you too!

Thanks so much, Carol, Tim and Caroline :) The peeps are happy hanging out on my wall for a while. I know someone will fall in love with them someday :)
Carol, I love Elizabeth's work - her peacocks are so wild and colorful but you know I just had to have the ravens :)

sorry about the rejection Rhonda but there'll be more chances, it's so subjective when it comes to juries, ain't it? and there's no point in thinking more about it when you look so happy with your new bag, awesome photo! as I would say you look "tan feliz como una perdiz!" hahahaha!

Pam, I'm okay with the peeps living here for a while :) And that bag more than makes up for it! ha ha

LOL! Teresa, I had to look this up - as happy as a partridge? ha ha Sounds about right :) I'm afraid I am wayyyy behind in my Spanish studies (: bad me, muy muy malo!!
