A TOUCH MORE ON SHAKER STILL LIFE + RAVEN RHYTHMS

A little more work, a few more dibs and dabs of paint here and there...

The misket and the tape is off the raven painting.  Now touching up the whites and blending it all in so it's not so stark.

And still working on the foreground of the still life, adding some depth and shape.

This is where they both stand right now.

I'm loving both so far Rhon, plus the ravens' one has me really interested, can't wait to see how it evolves, it has a lot of energy or power or... I don't know how to define it

The concept of the raven's painting is quite original...you always have such great ideas!
The still life is stunning! I like what you have added to the corn. This is going to be a winner!!! You are certainly starting the year with a bang! Congratulations, Rhonda!

Gracias, Teresa. I'm looking forward to seeing how those crows turn out, too - I had the beginning ideas and now am thinking about drawing and gesso and other things on this one to play and experiment and come up with something unique.

Thanks, Christiane. I'm happy with that corn so far but it still needs a bit more fiddling and then...gosh, it may eventually be done. I've never spent so long on a painting!

LCA Gallery in Newark, Ohio is doing a show called "Flights of Fancy" and I believe your raven painting would be perfect. I love your contrasting lights, darks/shadows in the other painting!

I'm loving Raven Rhythms. Maybe he doesn't look mean but is screaming a warning. I always link ravens to Poe (and they're fascinating birds).

The Shaker still life is a beauty.

I'll have to look that gallery and show up, Gretchen. Thanks so much :)

Hallie, yes, he's squawking out, "She's painting us again! Look out!" ha ha

Proceeding slowly but looking really good. I know I already told you before, but the Shaker still life is gorgeous, I am checking every day to see if the corn has been finished . Hope you can keep warm in the snowy weather in Kentucky.

Two completely different paintings and approaches, always moving ahead. Artists are like sharks - gotta keep moving or... Nice to see the super-rich darks working in your still life, very dramatic. Good work Rhonda!

Hi Rhonda. For some reason the message i left like 10 hours ago hasn't appeared, but just wanted to tell you I check your ravens every day to see, how they're going. Coming along slowly, but looking good. And I know I repeat myself, but your Shaker still life is just gorgeous!
Keep warm!!

Thanks, Jane (I think Blogger must have been holding back some posts - I had 8 this morning to okay). It is 6F today - brrrrr!!!

Nick, you are right - moving moving shifting bobbing and weaving along...

Thanks so much, Gary, Tim and Deb for your comments on these :) Deb, I know the still life is right up your alley and I'm trying to do it right so you won't say, "What were you thinking?" ha ha

Well Rhonda...that corn is coming along nicely! I love the fluid but textured look to the corn husks. I can see the impression of kernels emerging and think these are going to be just great.

That third raven is still mocking us! This is going to be such a wonderfully fun piece when finished.

Thanks, Susan. I'm struggling with those corn kernels...can't seem to make them look right. So I'm done for a while on this one - will have to return when I'm in the mood to see and capture the look better. This painting may never be done!
