A DANCER - NEXT STAGE

Worked a bit more on this one...

I don't think I'll do anything with the background - I like it white and it's helping me keep the skintones pale.  The face is finished and so is the hair.  It might just be done.  But I might have to touch a bit on the nose to bring it more up on the end (her nose is very distinctive).

I may darken the shadows a bit closer in to the body and then...

finally...

have a painting of Alaina??

And it only took 6-7 tries!

Now back to the portrait for this week.

she's looking good. Maybe you should be done. Let this one be and try another one of her.

Thanks, Pam. I like all that white paper - like she's looking ahead towards something...?

Carol, I think just a touch on her nose and (famous last words, right??).

Beautiful! You may, as you said, be happier with a tiny bit of dark on the shadows...but that's it! You have your painting of your granddaughter! Congratulations! And what is 6-7 tries...? Call them variations on a theme: thing of VanGogh's bedroom painted hundreds of times:-)

Your portraits are getting better and better (Is that what practice is good for - lol?)

I like the white background as well...it adds to the simplicity of the piece and keeps your focus on the dancer.

Susan, Thanks! I've always needed someone to yell STOP at me when I'm painting :)

Christiane, but Van Gogh was...um...obsessed??

Thanks, Vicki. That's why I keep practicing. Hopefully, I will get better and better at them.

Gretchen, thanks!!
