TREE, MOON AND STARS BECOMES SOMETHING ELSE

While the moon was still covered in masking fluid, I put on another layer in the sky to darken it and play up the blossoms even more.

And then I began on the tree...using lots of warms and playing with texture.

And then it went somewhere else...
so this is where it sits now and I think I'm finished with it.

The painting changed so the title had to change.

Heartwood and Moon.

Good use of Nick's technique.

very yummy. Excellent color choices and exquisitely done textures. WAY TO GO!

I like heartwood and moon. It looks like the tree is reaching up to grasp the moon. Very mystical.

Thanks, Carrie. I guess the wet-in-wet on hotpress is a Nick technique, but not sure I did it as well as he would have done.

Sandy, thanks! I'm glad to see you back commenting again...thought you'd gone away for good.

Carol, thanks. I seem to like those blues vs oranges in every painting. I even added some jewel tones to the stars later on (now that's definitely a Nick technique).
