GREEN HEIRLOOM TOMATOES

When we took our trip out west, beginning and ending with Salt Lake City, Utah, Jerry and I went to a Farmer's Market and saw these wonderful heirloom tomatoes.  There were red ones, green ones, and purple ones.  I bought several of each and we truly savored them although the green ones were a bit tart for my taste.

I started this painting at Deb's Thursday, and here's how far I've gotten on it.  Painting wet-in-wet for the tomatoes and letting the background bleed into the edges.

These look great. I love the mottled colour.

I grow heirloom tomatoes and they are so flavourful compared to other more modern varieties.

Thanks, Deb. I may remember to bring it - it's in the WAIT AND SEE stack now (which seems to be growing).

Thanks, Sandy. I know you love your tomatoes - these were a bit too tangy for me.

Jeanette, thanks. I don't think a newer tomato can hold up to the taste of these heirlooms, especially the reds and purples which are tomato heaven!!

My mouth is literally drooling right now! When we lived in coastal California I grew the most amazing tomatoes, I can still taste them! I have not lived anywhere since where I could grow them and they all suffered by comparison from those Ventura County tomatoes I grew. I have to endure whatever I can buy in the stores now...sigh.

I love the mottled treatment of the tomatoes and look forward to your color choices for the tomatoes.

I would be tempted to leave this painting just as it is - lovely eerie, floaty quality - ghost tomatoes perhaps? But red, green and purple should look as delicious as they sound...

Very tasty so far, nice and loose and fun. Can't wait to see these "ripen"!

Thanks, Susan and Lisa!

Cathy, I am never tempted to just leave something alone! ha ha I haven't touched them again so far but seem to be more in a reading mood lately - I always feel more like reading and curling up and being lazy in the cooler days of autumn unless I'm out enjoying the foliage.

Thanks, Carol. I hope I can maintain that watercolor look with the next layers.
