OKAY, ONCE MORE WITH FEELING!

Here we go again.  Another try at the deck chairs and shadows.

Full sheet Arches 140# cold press watercolor paper, Daniel Smith paints.

Give me your best shot:  what works, what doesn't and what do you think about the ROYGBIV-like chairs?

I like it. I like the glow it has, I like the shadows, I love the choice of chair colors....it's like they are fading into each other.

I am so to see this one. You hung in there until you came up with the winner that you knew it was. Really like the way that you handled the water & sand. Like your chairs but your shadows are my favorite part. Love those shadows.

The shadows are fabulous. Brilliant.

Ooooooo, this has a sitting on top of the world feel as the water looks like the earth from above with landmasses. Masking fluid? Whatever I love all of it!

I love the deck, I love the shadows! The water reads so much better in this version!
You should be proud of this painting!

Hi Rhonda! I LOVE it! I am so glad that you've gone back to this image! My favorite part is the warm pink on the inside of the railing-I can FEEL that light!

I think its stunning Rhonda. Wonderful job. I love the colour in the shadows and the brights of the chairs against the calm ocean.

Beautiful.

Thanks so much, Gretchen, Vicki, Asit - the shadows really are what drew me to the photo so I'm glad I got it right in this one (I think it was number 3?)

Thanks, Pam - no masking fluid, just light colors blending into one another with some Lunar Earth to give it granulation.

Christiane and Jeanette - thanks so much!

Anonymous - Jane? THANKS!

I wouldn't change or add anything as it looks just right to me. Love the look of that sunlight and those cast shadows.

You nailed it this time! The one thing that draws my eye, though is the one white chair, but I am not sure if you are finished with this yet? There is so much to love about this rendition that it may be a minor detail and should be ignored. The painting stirs both relaxation and excitement if that makes sense?

Love the long shadows at that time of day. This is a wonderful piece.

Great that you stuck with this one, well worth your hard work and perseverance - I love the sunny warmth of the chairs and the deck, and the shadows are fantastic.

I keep running in to your blog link from various artists' sites, and let me say that this painting "reads" a cut above on the thumbnails. It begged me to open it up for a further look - and does not disappoint. The color balance is great, the values are great, and it feels like there is life in it, even though the people have temporary walked on down to the beach or gone inside for the day. Like Pam said, the bg appear to be "world-like" rather than a real life view. Was that intentional? It's GREAT, either way!

This time you've done it! Just the right balance of texture and color and "darkness" in those shadows, you've turned them into the protagonist! beautiful

Thanks so much for your positive comments on this one, Ann, Teresa, Jane and Cathy.

Susan, I'll look at that white chair again - perhaps a touch more darks here and there but I wouldn't do much more to it.

devotedmomof7, thanks for your comments! I didn't intentionally create a world view in the sand/surf but I'm kind of glad it reads that way to people.

Rhonda - I am SO proud of you...you never gave up on this and the resulting painting is "WOW" in every way. You handled the colors great from the water to the colorful chairs and the deck wood is painted so well. HIGH FIVES to you!

Wow! I think this is my favorite painting of yours I've seen yet.

Thanks, Rachel. This is one I tried about 3-4 times before getting it right :) Sometimes I do get stubborn enough to keep trying! I'm enjoying your raven/crow paintings alot!

I really like this - the chairs glow and the shadows too - for me it reads like the start or end of a story - it kind of tingles with suspense (o:
