BUILDING VALUES SLOWLY ON THE DECK

Slowly building up the values - need darker in the railings to the left but wanted a warm underglow first. I remember reading that a cast shadow is 40% darker than the object casting the shadow. I think the railings are that dark, too. More work to do on the darkest shadows on the deck - just some cleaning up shapes.
Leaving the chairs until last. Taking my time? Or have I just lost my enthusiasm?

Oooh....I like the direction this is taking. Your colors are working very well together.

Building it slowly is paying already Rhonda, I'm loving it, just take your time, there's no need to force it on yourself, right? BTW thanks for the info on that 40% hadn't heard about that before and you've made me curious

Looking good. Hope your sad day is behind you; I like the start of that abstract, maybe it will take a happier day to complete it.

Thanks so much, Gretchen, Teresa, Deb (slowly slowly until it's done!), and Vicki, for your comments.

Deb, I am so happy today! My sister had a procedure and the results were good = everything normal (they don't know her like I do! ha ha). That really was weighing on my heart a lot more than I realized lately.

Teresa, I think I read that 40% thing in a book on portraits but can't remember now. Seems like I've heard it several times before. So...darker still on the railings to the left, leaving the colors on the railings in front, I think. I'll have to get out my red plastic to see through it and get it right. It's all about the shadows!

Rhonda, do take your time. There is no rush and we will all do our best to be patient and wait for you to finish this painting. It is coming along so well...it will be super!I am so happy that you got good news concerning your sister - sisters are so precious.

Thanks so much, Christiane :) I'm in a reading instead of doing anything else mode right now but will get back to it, I'm sure.

I think this is very beautiful! It shimmers in the middle. Love the colors in the shadow and all around.

Thanks so much, Barbara :) I'm afraid this one is torn in bits and in the round bin and I've begun the 3rd version - my mind's picture and this picture just won't jive...yet! But I'm stubborn enough to keep trying to get there.
