LEMONS AND SHADOWS - ALMOST DONE

I tried to get the colors richer by adding more reddish tones. Almost done now - except for the lemons, which need a bit of work to get them looking for rounded and shadowed. (The blue is more a grey-blue muted color than is showing in the final photo - my camera likes blues but tends to make them more cool than I see them).

Thanks to all those who stuck with me through the progression of this one!

(Funny, Sandy Maudlin mentioned that the yellows would love cobalt blue - and I had already put blue on the bowl when she sent me that email! I guess she was my teacher for so long - 6 years - that I know what she'll say before she says it to me! ha ha)

Have a great week!

I have plans to finish the fluid acrylic paintings I began in Deb Ward's workshop. And then revisit some DVDs, especially the DVD by Nicholas Simmons to get in the groove for his workshop coming up the 17th-20th of this month in Kettering, OH. I have my place in the workshop and a place to stay so I'm ready!

Sorry I haven't commented yet on your Lemons and Shadows although I have stopped by and have been watching your progress.

I love the composition and the colors along with those deep, dark shadows. I can't wait to see it completed. It's already a beauty!

Thanks, Carol. Glad you are enjoying it :)
Gillian, thanks for that compliment = I want to be a colorist when I grow up!

It's looking good, Rhonda. Oooh, I wish you well with the lemons. ... Be judicious - they're pretty close now. Don't lose that light!

Thanks, Suzanne, I know just what you mean - it's sitting now waiting for me to lightly add some darks to round those lemons but not lose the whites (I hope). Right now, playing with finishing up some acrylics while watching Nick Simmons' DVD on fluid acrylics - a fun and very good DVD!

Nice post - hope you post more of the progress. i love those paintings that are simple compositions that concentrate on the colour more. An artist can take anything that is considered "everyday" and in the right hands turn it into something worth stopping for and pondering. Thanks

Thanks so much, Sean, for stopping by and commenting. I did finish this piece and you can see it with darkened lemons on the May 15 post.
